Why Astrology?
As a new PhD student at the California Institute of Integral Studies, I never intended to focus on the study of Archetypal Astrology. And then, serendipitously, I took an introductory class called “The History of Western Thought and Culture” taught by Richard Tarnas.
With little to no experience with astrology (other than reading my newspaper horoscope) but a good education in western philosophy and religion, I never expected to have my mind blown.
As the first class progressed, I moved from barely interested astrological sceptic to seeing the people and events of history that I did know about through an entirely different lens - that of the archetypes and their astrological expressions. I took every class Dr. Tarnas taught until I graduated.
For the last twenty-five years, I have plotted my own transits and applied what I learned to my own life cycles. What I’ve learned over the years is that change is the only constant, but it can arrive in a spiraling fashion that brings us around and around to a similar place with a new perspective.
Watching my own cycles, as well as helping others to understand theirs, has developed in me a deep and abiding compassion for myself and other humans. The mystery in which we live and move is ultimately beyond our total understanding. However, guidance is there in the stars if we but look up.
I would be honored to accompany you on your star gazing journey.
